Evening View of the Blue Whole Gallery

Imaginative and Original Artwork

The Blue Whole Gallery will showcase in its display windows the artwork of Mary Franchini and Carl Baker during the month of August.  Both artists reflect imaginative views along with a unique perspective that challenge the viewer to visualize something new and original in everyday objects that surround us.  Expand your awareness and visit the Blue Whole Gallery on First Friday, August 5th, 2016 from 5 to 8 p.m. to meet these member artists and their work that stimulates and challenges our view of art.

Mary Franchini, a two dimensional artist and teacher, set out this year with a personal challenge for herself to "just paint".  She set the rules to use only blue & yellow paint; one piece of collage paper and the use of pastels.  Yet rules by their nature can be stretched and see how far Mary wandered in the results shown below.

"Just Painting 4"

Along with painting, Mary teaches in her home studio which allows her students and friends to push her into new aspects of painting. The results exceeded the rules she had set out to follow but permitted her to grow and be more encompassing in her treatment of the subject matter.

Mary Franchini and the Blue Whole Gallery invite the public to explore her efforts by visiting the Gallery on First Friday August 5th from 5 to 8 p.m. and meet her and the imaginative artwork she has created.  Also, enjoy this display throughout the month.

Carl Baker is a wood artist who finds the medium offers a rich and varied choices that allows him to express what he sees in the world surrounding us. The availability of wonderful wood in the Northwest provides him with a platform to stretch his creative boundaries and use the natural patterns and colors that occur.  His efforts are shown below.

Carl also is inspired by the cosmos and its expanse and diversity.  To capture the wonders of space Carl uses burls and natural wood shapes to imaginatively interpret the elements that make up our universe.  Carl also enjoys sharing the variety of color and patterns that different woods provide and incorporate them into pieces that enhance the final artwork.
